About Grenserittet

Grenserittet Strömstad-Halden is one of the largest MTB Races in Norway and Sweden and the biggest MTB Race between two countries.The 80 km loop starts in Strömstad, a charming Swedish border town, and finishes at the stunning Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, a beautiful Norwegian border town.

The 80 km course is technically easy, but requires rapid speed changes for those wanting to acheve a good result. Some areas may be termed semi technically challenging, although not to scary for the common fitness cycling enthusiast.

This course runs trough beautiful scenery and is suitable for everyone!

SIX DIFFERENT RACES

During the Grenserittet-weekend there are races for the whole family to attend! In addition to the "main event" Grenserittet Strömstad-Halden on Saturday, the following races takes place:

Grenserittet Midt 40 km
This is a race for those who would like to try mountainbiking, but might find 80km too long at the time! The course is the same as the last 40km of the Grenserittet-course. The start is at Prestebakke, a small Norwegian village near the swedish border.Friday 3rd of August 2012.

Grenserittet Ung 40 km
This is a race for youth between the age of 13-16! The course is the same as the last 40km of the Grenserittet-course and also the same course as Grenserittet Midt, so why don't race against or with your parents! The start is at Prestebakke, a small Norwegian village near the swedish border. Friday 3rd of August 2012.

Grenserittet Barn Strömstad og Halden
This is a race for children between the age of 5-12! The children will be challenged in a short course at Fredriksten Fortress and in the area of Gymnasskolan in Strömstad. Parents are allowed to help the youngest. They will all get start bibs, a diploma and maybe a small surprise after finishing! Friday 3rd of August 2012.

Speedseeding
This is a short race for those who are fit to start in an earlier wave in Grenserittet than given and have no previous valid results to show for. You will ride a 10 km course of a character similar to the Grenserittet course.
Your result will place you in the right wave according to the a wave time chart. You will not be placed in a lower wave than you already have been placed in when you made your entry. Friday 3rd of August 2012.

Merida Elite Show Course
This is a spectacular show race where the audience can watch the Elite-riders riding the short course at Fredriksten Fortress at high speed! To participate you have to be invited. Friday 3rd of August 2012.

Facts

Since the first official race in 1999 with 650 participants, the number of participants has gradually increased every year since the very beginning.

For 2012 the limit will be 7500 competitors.

Grenserittet always takes place the first weekend in August.

On your way you will cross the border in the woods between Sweden and Norway.

1000 volunteers are working to give you the best experience.
